4 Ways Singles Can Celebrate Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s day seems to be a holiday that everyone either loves or hates. On the negative side, it can feel like a lot of pressure for people. Whether you’re in a relationship and have to figure out gifts or plans, or single and feel like you’re left out, it can feel like a lot to manage. For singles, it can bring up a lot of feelings of loneliness, sadness, or self-pity. It can also be a time for singles to celebrate independence, empowerment, and love in general. Here are 4 ways you can celebrate Valentine’s Day even if you don’t have a hot date.

1)    Take yourself out for a solo date.

You may have seen this concept previously as a common theme on Tik Tok videos. A solo date can be anything from a nice dinner for yourself, to an activity you’ve been wanting to try. Think about the things you’ve told yourself you’d love to do if you had someone to do it with, then do it yourself. The thing that distinguishes this from a regular outing to a solo date is that you should get dressed up and look nice for yourself, and it should be something you enjoy!

2)    Buy yourself a gift.

This is a great idea for anyone whose love language is receiving gifts, or someone who hasn’t done anything nice for themselves for a while. The best part of buying yourself a gift is that you know exactly what you want. This can be a nice idea because it is an act of self-love, and you can always remember that this was a Valentine’s day gift for yourself.

3)    Spend time with friends or loved ones

Galentine’s day anyone? Valentine’s day is a day to celebrate and appreciate the people in your life that you love. Romantic love is only one form, and familial and platonic love are just as important as any other form. If you live near friends and family, you can set up a gathering at a restaurant, home, or other space. You can look on Pinterest for inspiration of cute décor or foods to make. This is also an opportunity to get cute and feel good about yourself and the love in your life. If you don’t live near anyone, having an online zoom gathering is also an option.

4)    Practice gratitude

Valentine’s day is a great time to take a step back and be grateful for all of the ways you experience love. You can journal, or simply take a second to appreciate the positive people in your life that love and support you. What is love to you? Maybe it’s a friend calling and checking in on you when they’ve heard you’re having a hard time, or maybe it’s getting yourself an iced matcha latte on a sunny day. Either way, this is a great time to appreciate all of the forms of love you experience on the daily basis.

Celebrating Valentine’s Day in one of these ways, or doing something else will be beneficial to give you something to look forward to, while acknowledging positive things in your life. Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
